The new book, Mata Ortiz Pottery: Art and Life, by Ron Goebel was released in August, 2008. Mata Ortiz Pottery: Art and Life tells previously untold stories of the ceramic artists of Mata Ortiz, a village in northern Mexico. The village is home to Juan Quezada, the living legend who rediscovered pottery-making techniques of the prehistoric Casas Grandes people, inspiring an artistic renaissance in the community. This book covers the family life and art of Juan Quezada, Laura Bugarini, Lydia Quezada, Jerardo Tena and Elí Navarrete and others. Rare and beautiful photography (including previously unpublished photographs) and moving accounts by the artists give readers an inside look at the vital interrelationship of family, community and art in the living tradition of Mata Ortiz. The author, Ron Goebel also produced the documentary, Mata Ortiz Pottery: An Inside Look, filmed on location in Mata Ortiz, Chihuahua, Mexico.
